Light a Candle
Mattie Lou Elkins was born on September 25, 1935 to Herbert Arthur and Willie C. (Currie) Elkins in Stanton, Tennessee. She was their only child. Mattie (Matt as her children affectionately called her) was married to John L. Parker of Mason, Tennessee and this union lasted until John’s death March 22, 1990. John and Matt moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1966 and this became Matt’s permanent residence until her death. Even so, she always viewed Tennessee as her home. Mattie was blessed with three children who loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed, but her family is finding comfort in knowing that Mattie was aware of their deep love for her throughout her journey.
